How to Convert Integers Into Average Time

People calculate times for many different reasons, such as hours worked or time spent in an academic class. If you deal with a situation involving calculations of time, you may have to average these calculations. During the process of this calculation, you will have to add, multiply, subtract and divide various integers. An integer is a whole number that can be negative or positive. In calculations involving time, you can convert positive integers into an average time.

Add the minutes you have recorded or have been provided. For example, consider an runner who has been recording how many minutes it takes him to run a set number of miles. The runner may have recorded the following calculations: 50, 52, 49, 48, 51. When you add these calculations together, you have 250 minutes.

    • 2

Divide the sum by the number of recorded entries. In this case, you have a set of five time recordings, so you would divide 250 by 5 to get 50 minutes.

    • 3

Convert the average time to hours and minutes, if necessary, by dividing the quotient by 60. For example, if you had an average of 150 minutes, you would divide 150 by 60 to get 2 with a remainder of 30. This means that the average time was 2 hours, 30 minutes.

    • 4

Multiply your answer by 60 if you want to find out the time in seconds. For example, if you have an average of 25 minutes, you would multiply 25 times 60 to get an average of 1,500 seconds.
