You may may be familiar with the American temperature scale, measured in degrees Fahrenheit, or the metric temperature scale, measured in degrees Celsius. You may not, however, be as familiar with the Kelvin scale. This temperature scale is a part of the International System of Measurements and is based on the concept of absolute zero, when all particle motion stops. That is, no temperature is lower than zero on the Kelvin scale, which contains no negative integers. You can convert from Kelvin to Celsius through a simple mathematical process.

1
Write down the Kelvin temperature. For example, you might have a measurement of 350 Kelvin.
-
2
Subtract 273 from the Kelvin temperature. In this example, you would subtract 273 from 350 to get 77.

3
State your answer in degrees Celsius. In this example, 350 would equal 77 degrees Celsius.
