Explain the story briefly to the children using simple language. The basis of the story is Mary appearing to Juan Diego, an indigenous Mexican, in the form of an Aztec princess, and Juan Diego telling of what he saw to a bishop.
Tell the children the religious moral of the story, which is that the Christian faith can be for all people and Mary understood that she needed to use the language and customs of Juan Diego's people to get through to him.
Assign parts to four of the children you're teaching. The parts in the story are Juan Diego, Mary, the bishop, as well as a narrator to help tell the story.
Provide each of the four children with a script. A sample can be found in the resources section below.
Ask the four children to act out the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the rest of the children present. It's much easier to teach the story when the children get involved hands-on and can actually see the story unfolding.
Switch the parts and allow other children in the class to act out the story as well.
