How to Find the Measurements Between the Metric Units of Length

The metric system is an international measurement system used in almost all the countries of the world. France was the first country to adopt the metric system back in 1799. Even though the United States is currently using the International System of Units as its predominant measurement system, it is sometimes necessary to be aware of the metric system and the conversions that can be made between the different length units.

Instructions

    • 1

Divide nanometers by 1,000 to calculate micrometers, or microns. The nanometer is used mostly for scientific experiments.

    • 2

Divide micrometers by 1,000 to calculate millimeters. Millimeters are more widely used, particularly in the industries that require a lot of precision.

    • 3

Divide millimeters by 10 to calculate centimeters. Centimeters are often used in mathematical drawings , such as lines, segments etc. Moreover, the special math notebooks are made of 0.5 cm edge squares to give space for drawing.

    • 4

Divide centimeters by 100 to calculate meters. Meters are usually used to measure shorter distances.

    • 5

Divide meters by 1,000 to obtain kilometers. Kilometers are used for measuring longer distances.
