How to Write Single Fractions

A single fraction consists of one numerator and one denominator. As opposed to single fraction, a complex fraction constitutes a number of numerators and denominators multiplying or dividing with one another. You can easily write single fractions on your notebook or type them on the computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Write single fraction on a notebook. Write the numerator of the fraction, followed by "/" and then write the denominator.

    • 2

Type a single fraction on a word processing application such as Notepad or Word. Type the numerator of the fraction followed by the "/" key. Then type the denominator of the single fraction.

    • 3

Type a single fraction on spreadsheet software such as Excel. By default, Excel converts a single fraction to its decimal value. To display it as a single fraction, right-click the cell in which the fraction is to be inserted and select the option "Format Cells." Select "Percentage" from the drop-down category list.

    • 4

Select "Up to one digit" from the "Type" drop-down list. Click the "OK" button. In the selected cell, type the numerator of the fraction, press the "/" key and then type the denominator. Hit the "Enter" key. The cell will display the value as a single fraction, and not a decimal.
