Arrange the desks or tables. They should be situated in such a way that students can easily work together and also pay attention to the teacher when necessary.
Create spaces for different play areas. You can use shelves to divide the space into separate areas. Ideas for the different areas include an art area, a library/reading area, a music area, a math area, a pretend area and a place for the whole class to come together.
Stock the play areas with relevant manipulatives. The library/reading area should have age-appropriate books; the pretend area should have a play kitchen and dress-up clothes; the art area should have age-appropriate art supplies, and so on.
Decorate the room. The area you designate for whole-class time should have a calendar area as well as other relevant seasonal items. Use rugs and lamps to make the space feel more inviting. Hang up artwork at student eye level so that they can see and appreciate the work.
