Purchase all the supplies you need for school, taking into consideration the lessons you will be covering.Supplies you may need include art supplies, staples, pens, pencils, paper and a calculator. While you are shopping, be sure to pick up several storage containers of different sizes for storing various items.
Designate a set of shelves or a closet as a school-supply area. Organize and arrange everything in the area, and make sure that you and the children know that anything that is used needs to be returned to the same place. This will eliminate the spread of home-school items around the home.
Mount a cork board with the lesson plans for the week in an area designated as the place for school work. If you don't have a separate room to use as a classroom, the dining room table or a corner area in a living room can be used to set up a work space. Utilize binders and folders to keep worksheets and assignments organized and usable.
Keep school in the school area; when school is over, place everything back in its designated space. Taking the time to get organized and make sure that you have everything you may need is the first step in being a successful home-school home.
