Area measures the space covered inside of a flat object. The area of a sheet measures the space covered by the sheet, from edge to edge both horizontally and vertically. To calculate the area of a sheet, you need to know both the length and the width of the sheet. Then you can use the formula for finding the area of a rectangle to calculate the area. This formula is A = l x w, or Area = length times width.

1
Measure the length of the sheet. This is the longer edge of the sheet, or the edge that runs along the side of the bed.
-
2
Measure the width of the sheet. This is the shorter edge of the sheet that runs along the head and foot of the bed.

Multiply the length times the width. The area is noted in square units. For example, if the length of the sheet is 6 feet and the width is 4 feet, multiply 6 times 4. The area is 24 square feet.
