How to Get the Perimeter of a Cube

Perimeter is the distance around the outside of a polygon. Perimeter is usually calculated on a 2-dimensional shape by adding the sum of the length of each side. The formula used in mathematics is P=2 x L + 2 x W, where L stands for length and W stands for width. Finding the perimeter of a cube is a different story because a cube is 3-dimensional, but the perimeter can be found using another formula.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure one side of the cube. If one side of the cube is 10 centimeters, all sides of the cube will be 10 centimeters. Every side of a cube is equal.

    • 2

Count the number of lines in the cube. Every cube has 12 lines.

    • 3

Multiply the number of lines in the cube by the length of one line of the cube. For example, if one line of the cube measures 10 centimeters, multiply that by 12 for the 12 edges of the cube. The formula would be P (perimeter)=10 (line measurement) x 12 (total number of lines in the cube) or P=120.
