Finding the details of a particular geometric shape plays an important role in such fields as general construction, engineering, landscaping and crafts. The perimeter of an object is the border of the shape. In a semicircle, only the radius measurement needs to be taken to find the perimeter. Knowing how to find the perimeter of a semicircle is similar to that of finding the perimeter of a circle. It is important to remember that the perimeter of a semicircle is not half of the circumference of a circle of the same radius. There is a curved portion as well as a flat portion that needs to be considered for the calculation.

1
Measure and record the radius of the semicircle of interest. This is the distance from the very center to any point on the curved edges.
-
2
Write down the formula for finding the perimeter of a semicircle on a piece of paper. It is the radius multiplied by the quantity of pi plus 2. Pi is approximately 3.142 for the calculation.

3
Perform the calculation either by hand or by use of the calculator. The proper order is to add pi and 2 first, then multiply by the radius. The result will be the length of the border of the semicircle.
