Crafts for a Brownie Meeting

The Girl Scouts were started in 1912 and the tradition still carries on today across the United States. Girl Scouts gather together to participate in age-appropriate activities in order to earn awards, learn skills and form friendships. There are six levels of Girl Scouts, ranging from the Daisies, who are of kindergarten age, and the Ambassadors, who are in their senior year of high school. Girl Scout Brownies are in the second and third grades, and this age enjoy to make all kinds of crafts.
  1. Electric Cord Holder

    • Girl Scouts of any age, including Brownies, can make an electric cord holder. While the Brownies themselves might not have much use for this item, it’ll make a great gift for parents or older brothers or sisters. You’ll need an empty toilet tissue roll, colorful gift wrap and glue. Cover the toilet tissue roll with the gift wrap, gluing the ends of the paper into the inner lining of the tissue roll. Cords can be laced through the roll in order to keep them neat and out of the way.

    Flower Baskets

    • Flowers baskets are a popular project for Brownie troops, especially around Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day. You’ll need to gather several colorful silk flowers, green floral foam, decorative baskets, fabric floral covering and glue. Place the floral foam in the bottom of the basket and glue the fabric covering over the foam. Push flowers into the foam, allowing the Brownie to make any type of floral arrangement she wants.

    Friendship Bracelets

    • Create friendship bracelets with your Girl Scouts troop, and ask them to trade their bracelets with fellow Brownies. You’ll need one thin, 14-inch suede strip for each bracelet. You can find these suede bracelets in an assortment of colors at most craft supply stores. You’ll also need a collection of multicolored pony beads. Have your Brownies thread a few pony beads onto the suede strip. Then lace each end of the suede strip through one singular bead to create a slide (like on a tie). To finish the bracelet, lace one bead on each end of the bracelet and tie a knot. It may help to cut the ends of the suede strip at an angle for easier beading.

    Gift Coupons

    • Gift coupons are fun for Brownies to make because they have to think about the things that their family members would like to have. Gift coupons can be given to parents and redeemed for things like bear hugs, breakfast in bed or household chores. The Girl Scouts can make the coupons out of colored construction paper that they decorate with markers, stickers and glitter -- just don’t forget to have them include the actual promise on each coupon!
