Incorporate lessons on storytelling, writing or character development by having the students create a movie poster of a story they have written for class. Movie posters make great classroom decorations. Instruct students to create movie posters for their favorite movie. Hang the posters on the walls of the classroom to display the students' artwork and personalities.
Select a movie or have the children pick their own favorite movie. Give the students construction papers containing four-inch tall generic people shapes. Allow the students to decorate their puppet with crayons, markers, wiggly eyes, and yarn, glitter and paper cutouts to create their favorite character. Help the students cut out their finger puppets and create two half-inch holes in the bottom of their figure. Instruct students to insert one finger through each hole to give their character legs. Let the students put on mini-plays with their characters.
Welcome students back to school and into your classroom with a movie themed art project. Give each student a large construction paper star. Have each student dip their hands in gold colored finger paints and make handprints on their star. Allow the paint to dry and instruct the students to decorate their star with markers, crayons, glitter, stickers and paints. Make each star contains the student's name. Hang the stars on a classroom bulletin board to highlight your new students.
Construct movie reels containing paper film with your students. This fun movie craft will allow students to show off their drawing and storytelling skills. Give each student a stack of 2 1/2-by-11-inch long paper strips. Have the students draw lines every three inches across the width of the strips to create frames. Instruct the students to think of their favorite move. The students must tell the story of their movie by drawing one picture on each frame of the paper strips. Help the students glue multiple strips together end to end to create a longer filmstrip. Glue a large paper circle to either end of a three-inch section of empty paper towel roll. Have the students wind their film around their rolls to create the reel.
