Bible Crafts for Kindness

"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control," begins the verse found in Galatians 5:22 of the NIV Bible. This verse offers the opportunity to break down the "fruit" and study it separately, including kindness. Including a craft will help kids use their sense of creativity and put kindness into practice.
  1. Magnets

    • Trace a business card magnet on a piece of card stock, then cut it out with scissors. Decorate the card stock with the word "kindness" or a Bible verse, using crayons, markers, paint, glitter and small stickers. Glue the piece of card stock to the magnet and let it dry before putting it on the refrigerator or a metal file cabinet. Another option is to have kids cut out small pictures from magazines that depict a scene of kindness, such as a child petting a dog. Place the magnet over the picture and trace it with a pencil, then cut the picture out and glue it to the magnet.

    Booklets

    • Fold up to three pieces of letter-sized white paper in half. Make a cover out of white or lightly colored card stock. Staple the booklet in the middle to hold the pages together. Have children color "kindness" in block letters on the cover. On the inside pages, they can write verses from the Bible that encourage kindness, such as Galatians 5:22. Children can also include their own drawings of someone showing kindness to others.

    Stickers

    • Purchase blank name tag labels from an office supply store and cut them out individually. Have kids decorate several pieces of similarly sized card stock. They can write the word "kindness," or the verse from Galatians 5:22 on the card stock. Let the children use foam stickers, paint, markers and pieces of tissue paper to create small works of art. They can glue the decorated card stock to the name tag stickers and trade them with their friends.

    Journals

    • Use Galatians 5:22 to start a Bible study on kindness. Have older students keep a journal that includes acts of kindness that they've done or witnessed. Have them also journal situations where kindness would have been a better way to handle a situation they were either directly involved in or observed. The journals can be used for Bible study discussions.
