Cheer Theme Ideas

Cheerleaders support players and enhance the game experience for fans. A good cheerleading crew can command the crowd's attention and help intensify its support for the team they are watching. The right cheer at the correct moment just may hit tiring players correctly and help them rally at the biggest moment of the game. Even if that doesn't happen, cheerleaders are often entertaining when they deliver their cheers.
  1. Team Pride Cheers

    • One basic type of cheers that is often delivered to help the crowd get into a game is based on the team's pride. This kind of cheer can help focus the crowd's energy and help them concentrate on the team's overall play. It may go like this:

      Go team! Go team!
      Who do we mean?
      We'll say it loud,
      Because we're proud!

      C-O-U-G-A-R-S!

    Crowd Interaction Cheer

    • Sometimes the cheer captain may sense that the fans are thinking more about the postgame party and are starting to let the game slide. One of the best ways to get the crowd back into the game is to start an interaction cheer. The cheerleaders give a direction and ask the crowd to respond, or the fans are asked a question that requires an answer. Here's an example.

We say Tigers! You say Go!
      Tigers! Go!
      Tigers! Go!

The cheerleaders can lead this cheer for five or six verses until the entire crowd is responding and the decibel level is high enough for the players to hear.

    Clever Cheer

    • The basic go-team-go cheers are the backbone of what many cheerleaders do. There's nothing wrong with that. However, there are times when the same old cheers are not get the job done. Some cheers can be mind-numbingly predictable, so cheerleaders who can come up with something clever will be appreciated by the fans and perhaps even by the players. Here's one that may throw sports fans for a bit of a loop and help get them refocused.

      Rif-raff-ree,
      Kick them in the knee!
      Rif-raff-rass,
Kick them in the other knee!

This short and sweet cheer may make the crowd laugh.
