Yearbook Theme Ideas

There are a number of approaches you can take for your school's yearbook theme. The theme you choose should be based in part on the grade levels at your school, including elementary, high school or college yearbook. Hire a graphic artist to create your yearbook design and add photos. Or create your own yearbook design in a graphics program, then have the completed design printed by a print shop.
  1. Four Seasons Theme

    • A seasonal theme can be a terrific option for your yearbook's overall design. Represent each season of the year throughout your yearbook by adding graphics, photos and poems on each page of your yearbook as a background, border or an introduction to a new section of your yearbook. For example, add a photo of students participating in some activity related to each season, like enjoying a winter carnival or playing outside during the fall.

    School Retrospective Theme

    • Using images of the school and student body over the years can be a wonderful way to give a sense of continuity to your school yearbook. For example, your yearbook could showcase students from different generations of your school at a school dance, pep rally or sporting event. Include clip art or photos that you find online as a border or decorative element to student photo pages. You can use the types of clothing, cars or symbols that were in vogue from decade to decade.

    Educational Cartoon Theme

    • Look for cartoons that are doing something related to school activities online. Or create your own educational-themed cartoons in a program like Photoshop or GIMP (freeware). For example, a horse wearing a graduation cap and reading a book can be added to the corner of a page of elementary school photos. A computer-generated cartoon boy kicking a soccer ball on the playground are other ideas for graphics. Also consider creating a funny cartoon on each page of your yearbook or as section dividers.
