Understand the tryout process and expectations of the coaches before arriving at the location where the tryouts will be held. Prepare yourself by being in good physical condition and having a basic knowledge of the sport or activity. Drink plenty of water before and during the tryout, and make that well before the event you have eaten food that will provide you with plenty of energy.
Arrive at the tryouts early. Instead of being on time, arrive early so that any final instructions are received and necessary paperwork is completed and turned in.
Dress appropriately. Wear comfortable athletic clothing such as a T-shirt, shorts, socks and shoes based on the sport. Wear cleats if trying out for football or soccer, for example, or cross-training shoes when trying out for cheerleading.
Demonstrate effort and a positive attitude. Support others also trying out regardless of skill level. Give the coaches your best effort even if you've been on the team before. Events like these are often open tryouts, meaning that no one is guaranteed a spot on the team.
Follow directions from coaches. Pay attention, do not talk with other players excessively, and listen. Demonstrate your ability to focus and follow directions, as this is an important part of being a team player.
