How to Develop Team Unity

Developing team unity is an important part of any team, and not just a sports team. Learning how to be a team player has implications in academia -- think group projects -- as well as in business, when knowing how to work with others well might mean the difference between getting that big account or not. By developing and improving a team's feeling of unity, you can maximize the team members' effectiveness.

Instructions

    • 1

Emphasize the importance of team unity in accomplishing specific goals. While you should acknowledge each individual team member's talents and abilities, stress the necessity of working with others to achieve one's goals.

    • 2

Provide opportunities where team members can share how they approach playing future games or completing work-related assignments. Initiate smaller group-oriented activities, like putting team members in groups of four or five and asking each group to work together on solving problem areas that the team needs to work on.

    • 3

Give team members a chance to meet in a more casual setting, whether it's to revel in a success or commiserate over a defeat. Getting to know each other builds the team members' unity, promotes a feeling of shared objectives and helps them feel comfortable with one another.
