Here are some things you can do to strengthen your application:
- Get a high score on the SAT or ACT. UCI's average SAT score is 1330, and its average ACT score is 30. If you can score above these averages, it will help to offset your lower GPA.
- Take challenging courses in high school. UCI wants to see that you have challenged yourself academically. Taking AP or IB courses will show that you are capable of handling a rigorous workload.
- Get involved in extracurricular activities. UCI values students who are involved in their communities. Participating in extracurricular activities will show that you are well-rounded and have a variety of interests.
- Write a strong personal statement. Your personal statement is your chance to show UCI who you are and what you are passionate about. Take some time to write a thoughtful and well-written personal statement.
- Get strong letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, or employers can help to support your application. Make sure to ask for letters of recommendation from people who know you well and can speak to your strengths.
If you have a 3.6 GPA, it is important to remember that you are not alone. Many students have been admitted to UCI with GPAs lower than 3.8. By strengthening your application in other areas, you can still increase your chances of getting into UCI.
