Why do west point cadets have different uniforms?

There are several reasons why West Point cadets have different uniforms:

- To distinguish cadets from other military personnel. Cadets wear a distinct uniform to identify themselves as members of the United States Military Academy and to set them apart from other military personnel, such as active-duty soldiers or Marines.

- To denote rank. West Point cadets wear different uniforms to denote their rank within the academy. Freshmen cadets wear a basic uniform, while sophomores, juniors, and seniors add additional insignia and accessories to their uniforms to signify their increasing rank and experience.

- To signify special occasions. West Point cadets wear different uniforms for special occasions, such as graduation, parades, and athletic events. These uniforms are often more formal and elaborate than the everyday uniforms and are meant to convey a sense of tradition and ceremony.

- To maintain discipline and esprit de corps. Wearing a uniform helps to instill a sense of discipline and unity among cadets. It also helps to create a sense of esprit de corps and pride in the academy, as cadets share a common identity and sense of purpose.
