Help the elementary school students research the rainforest topic their posters will cover. An adult should monitor any Internet research to help prevent the students from stumbling on inappropriate content. Instruct them to group important and interesting facts together and write them down in short phrases to be typed up later.
Lay the poster board on a flat surface. Measure down three inches from the top of the poster. Place the yardstick horizontally across the poster board under the three inches. Draw a horizontal line along the yard stick.
Remove the yard stick. Place stick-on letters over the line to make the title. The bottom of the letters should touch the line. Letters that naturally hang low, like p and q should extend below the line. Erase the line after the title is complete.
Turn on the computer, and open the desktop publishing program. Have the children type in the phrases they listed earlier about their rainforest topics. Use short phrases rather than full sentences to conserve space. They might need to use a font as small as 12 or 14 points, but their words can be larger if possible. Print out the phrases, and cut them out. Have the students spread rubber cement on the back of the information sheets and press them to the poster board where they wish.
Glue pictures, borders and other decorative items to the poster board. Set the poster board on a flat surface to dry for three to four hours before hanging.
