How to Do a 3rd Grade Book Report

Writing a book report for a third grade assignment will prepare you for what is required by teachers in later years. Not only will you increase your reading skills, but you will learn to evaluate the materials and convey your understanding of them in written form. After properly writing and turning in your book report, rest assured that your grade will reflect the effort you have shown in putting it together.

Instructions

    • 1

Take out your writing paper and pencil and write your full name and the title of the book at the top of the first page. Make sure to read your teacher's instructions on how she wants the paper formatted before you begin.

    • 2

Write the first paragraph of the report about the book itself, including such information as the title of the book, the author's name and the year that the book was published. Follow that information by describing the setting and the point in time when the story takes place.

    • 3

Write the second paragraph by discussing the main characters, including their names and short descriptions about their specific roles in the story. Describe the main character, who is the protagonist. Also explain how the other characters helped or hindered that character throughout the story. Give details as to certain habits they each have or whether they were humorous or not in their situations.

    • 4

Write the third paragraph by describing the story's beginning, the problem that the characters come across and how they eventually resolve it. Each of these parts of the story should be about a sentence in length, and the last part of the paragraph should describe how the story eventually ends.

    • 5

Write the last paragraph describing your opinion of the piece of literature. Describe what emotions came to mind while reading it and why you think it made you feel a particular way or not. This is the only paragraph where you can use the "I" reference because you are telling the teacher about your own experience of reading the text.
