Help students organize their report. Turn required topics into questions that can be answered in a student's research. Decide how many topics need to be included and create a note card or note page for each one.
Have students search for answers to research questions on a specific country. Third-graders should note their findings. To avoid copying the work of another person, limit notes to a few keywords per reply rather than allowing students to print entire sentences.
Keep record of the references that provide information for the country report. Students should get in the habit of immediately noting the name and location of the source they gleaned information from.
Compile and organize notes in a sensible order. Write a rough draft. Edit and correct the first draft. Once all edits have been made, have the students write final drafts.
Draw or outline the country's shape. Mark the capital and major or important cities. Include major rivers and landforms. Color the nation's flag.
Instruct third-graders to include a short oral report with a visual aid or poster board containing interesting pictures of the land or people, a hand-drawn map of the country, a hand-colored flag and a polished final draft of the written report.
