How to Draw a 3D Globe for the 3rd Grade?

Third grade mathematics classes focus on teaching the students the basics of multiplication, division, geometry and other mathematical tools in order to provide a strong base for the students for more advanced math classes. One area of basic geometry covered is the difference between two- and three-dimensional shapes. Teaching students to draw a three-dimensional globe and comparing it next to a two-dimensional circle is one method for differentiating between the two different dimensional shapes.

Instructions

Use a compass to draw a circle on the sheet of paper. The circle should be almost as large as the paper and perfectly round.

    • 2

Use the compass to draw longitude and latitude lines through the entire circle. The lines from side-to-side should remain approximately 1/2 inch apart throughout the entire circle but should have a slight curve in them; the lines from top to bottom should begin close together and at the center should be approximately 1/4 of an inch apart from each other, and then end close together at the end point. For example, when drawing the lines from side-to-side, create a slight dip in the lines and finish the line at the same point as the beginning point but on the opposite side. When drawing the lines from top to bottom, make each line further away from the other lines in the center, but close to the closest line at the origination and end points.

Outline the continents on the globe. To create the final touch on the three-dimensional globe, lightly sketch the outline of the continents on one side of the earth on your globe. If you create two three-dimensional globe drawings, you can sketch half of the continents on one and the other half on the other to include a geography lesson as well.
