Write down the activities your child does in a day. Beginning in the morning, help your child record each task that they engage in each day and how long it takes to carry out. For younger children, this should be general including school, sleep, eat, play, and watching TV. For older children, this could be very specific and include each activity including brushing teeth, sports, chores, talking to friends.
Add up each section and round up or down to create 1-hour intervals for younger children or 15-minute intervals for older children. If TV watching was 5.5 hours write six, but if school was four hours and a few minutes, write four. Your total should equal 24 hours.
Draw lines on a strip of paper to divide it into 24 segments. Color each segment based on the total number of hours each activity took using a different colored pencil or crayon. Based on the times listed above, the first six segments would be for TV and the next four for school.
Make a circle of the strip of paper with the colors facing outward.
Place the strip on a large piece of paper and use it as a guide to trace a circle on the paper.
Draw lines from the middle of the circle to the beginning and end of each color segment. This will divide your circle into sections that match the segments on your strip of paper.
Color and label each section on the pie chart.
