How to Assemble Kids' I.D. Tags

ID tags for kids help students, teachers and bus drivers learn each others' names during the first week of school. Information like name, grade, teacher and bus number should be included on a child's ID tag. Pictures of students also can be included as a form of identification.

Instructions

    • 1

Print information cards on a computer or hand-write them. Arrange the data on two cards, if you are using two-sided ID tags. Print the child's name on the bottom of the first card. Print all other information on the back of the second card. Keep all of the information on a single card for a one-sided ID tag.

    • 2

Crop a picture of the child so it fits inside the ID tag. Attach the photo in its designated area using paste or tape. Choose a current photo with an up-close view of the child's face to allow for easy identification. Replace pictures in the ID if a child's looks change dramatically. For example, change a photo if the child begins to wear eyeglasses or undergoes a significant change in hairstyle, such as a color or cut.

Assemble the information for the ID tags. Adhere two-sided ID cards together with tape or glue. Keep the information facing outward so it is visible. Allow the glue to dry completely before inserting it into the tag. Open the ID tag. Insert the information card into the tag. Secure the backing in place to prevent the information from falling out and being lost. Spread a thin layer of glue around the open edges of the badge to help secure it into place.

Attach the finished ID tag to a lanyard, cord or piece of yarn long enough to be worn loosely around the neck.
