Create a dinosaur fossil imprint by using dough and a small dinosaur toy. Make your own salt dough at home by mixing flour, salt and water to a dough-like consistency. After rolling out the dough, make imprints in the dough by gently pressing parts of the dinosaur toy, such as its arms, feet or face, onto it. Bake the dough for one hour, and after it cools your child can paint his fossil. Instead of using salt dough, you can also use play-dough, clay or, for an edible fossil, cookie dough.
Another option for making dinosaur fossil imprints is to create a coffee ground fossil. Save used coffee grounds and mix them with cold coffee, flour and salt to make a dough. After kneading the dough on wax paper, use a cookie cutter to cut out small circles. Use wooden craft sticks or toothpicks to imprint designs that look like dinosaur feet. Poke a small hole in the top of your dough so you can tie a string through it when it's dry to create a fossil ornament. These fossils do not have to be baked, and can be dried out overnight.
Help your child create a dinosaur fossil using uncooked pasta that you probably already have in your pantry. Place uncooked pasta, such as macaroni, into a zip top plastic bag and step on the bag to crush the pasta. Mix together potting soil and a few tablespoons of glue until you can mold it into a ball. Press out your soil ball onto a plate and use your broken pasta to create a dinosaur skeleton or just a dinosaur skull in the soil. When finished, brush your fossil with a coat of glue and let it dry overnight.
Your child will enjoy creating and eating a dinosaur fossil lollipop that you can make at home, according to the Kids Kreate website. Purchase dinosaur gummy candy or another type of candy that can resemble fossils. Help your child create the lollipop mixture which can be made by mixing sugar, corn syrup and water together. Use lollipop molds with the dinosaur candy stuck to the top of the lollipop sticks and spoon the candy mixture on top. These lollipops are a great treat for school parties and birthday parties.
