One of the easiest crafts for kids to make is the plate clock. It combines learning to tell time with the reward of eating parts of the clock. Obtain a paper plate and glue on printed numbers such from one to 12. Then print out arrows and place them on the clock, but leave them unglued so they can be manipulated. Place chocolate candies on each number and ask the child to change the clock to a specific time. If they are correct then they get to eat a piece of candy.
Help your child make a fabric clock. Cut a circle of cloth from a larger sample. Sew on 12 buttons so they are aligned with the traditional hour places on the clock. Next find cloth or metal arrows with holes on their base. Sew an additional button in the center of the clock that also secures the two arrows onto the fabric. Leave enough room so they can be shifted around as needed.
For very young children, a coloring page might be appropriate as a simple craft. Instead of testing the child with multiple times, give her a single time, such as 2:45. The page has all of the numbers written onto the clock with the arrows left off. The child is instructed to fill in the correct time by using the arrows and then color in the rest of the picture using her creativity.
Another fun craft is to create a personalized analog clock. Obtain thirty one small blocks and paint three sets of the numbers one through 10. On the final block paint the number one. Carve out a board with space for three of the blocks with a marker in between the hour and minute times. Use the numbers painted on the blocks to create an analog time of your choosing. Of course, this craft, like the others, is for aesthetic purposes and not practical for telling time.
