Help the children understand the concept of time by getting them to create their own TV guide. Let the children write a list of some of their favorite television programs. Give them a page filled with blank clock faces. Have the children draw the time that the television show begins onto the clock face, then write the name of the show beside the clock. Have a few schedules of typical children's television channels with you in case some of the children don't know the times of their shows.
Play clock Bingo with your second-grade classroom. Create Bingo cards filled with clock faces that are set to different times. When you call out a time, the children will have to search their cards to see whether the time is there. If it is, they will place a chip on top of the clock. Play until one child has a row filled with chips.
Make a board game that several children can play together. The game should be created with spaces filled with clocks set to different times. A child will roll the dice, then move her chip that number of spaces. If she can correctly tell the time on the space's clock, she can stay. If she can't, she must go back. The children will play until one reaches the finish line.
Let the children take turns being the class's "town crier." The town crier will call out times, such as "The big hand is on the 3, the little hand is on the 12," and the first person to call out the correct time gets to be the next town crier. Alternatively, have the children raise their hands rather than calling out the answer, as that can get quite loud.
