How to Make Water in a Diorama for Elementary School

Dioramas are a tool for engaging young minds in learning, allowing them to use their hands in an activity that teaches them about the world we live in. By incorporating learning with crafts, you move children out of their seats, involving both their bodies and minds in the learning process. When water is called for in a diorama, your child can achieve this effect using a few household items and a little ingenuity.

Instructions

    • 1

Assist your child in cutting a piece of blue construction paper to fit the bottom of your shoe box.

    • 2

Use a glue stick to secure the paper in place.

    • 3

Take green and blue tissue paper and rip it up, then crumple it into small pieces. Glue the pieces to the construction paper randomly using your glue stick.

    • 4

Assist your child in cutting a piece of plastic food wrap to use over the top of the tissue paper. This does not have to be cut to an exact fit, as little wrinkles provide the illusion of ripples and waves.

    • 5

Place small dabs of crafting glue along the perimeter of the construction paper.

    • 6

Crinkle the plastic wrap slightly and then gently secure the plastic wrap to the bottom of the shoe box.

    • 7

Proceed with adding other items to the diorama as assigned.
