Instructions

    • 1

Choose a curriculum. Decide whether you want a faith-based or more secular school curriculum for your child and sign him up. The Texas Home School Coalition has a list you can choose from at www.thsc.org. Register with the site in order to access the list.

    • 2

Withdraw your child from public school. If your child has previously attended school within the Tyler Independent School District, write a letter to her school's principal indicating that you wish to withdraw your child and teach her at home.

    • 3

Send a letter of assurance. By law, Texas schools must accept your letter of withdrawal or letter of assurance (if your Tyler Independent school asks for one) to satisfy Texas' compulsory attendance laws. You are not required to go to the school in person to fill out a form.
