Find a curriculum that works well for your high-schooler. Look through different resources available and talk to other homeschooling parents of high school students to see what has worked for them.
Challenge your child to stretch his knowledge. Give him work that will prompt him to do research or force him to think.
Focus on his career choice, if he has chosen one. Work on the basics, as well, but incorporate some classes into your schedule that will help him decide which career path he wants. Check your community college for classes in the career that he may be able to take now.
Use a DVD program or a local homeschooling group program for classes that you think you cannot properly teach, such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Advanced Math classes.
Get books that will help your high-schooler prepare for college entrance exams. Start early and be repetitive to make the most of your time. Keep drilling vocabulary and math facts until they are second nature to your child to help him succeed on college entrance exams.
Make school as fun as possible so your high-schooler does not lose interest. Give him some choices on what classes to take if he has options, or allow him to work independently on a project as he fulfills all the requirements.
Check with your local school board when your child starts ninth grade to make sure that he is on course to meet all the necessary graduation requirements for your state.
