Sign up to home school through a private school. North Atlantic Regional High School in Maine and CLASS, or Christian Liberty Academy School System, are two examples of schools that allow home schoolers to sign up for their high school program.
Complete all of your courses from home using the curriculum of your choice, or the curriculum used by the private school you signed up with.
Mail completed assignments, quizzes, tests and pictures of any projects to the private school to be reviewed by state-certified teachers. The private school will verify that you have completed the work and will assign grades and records for your transcript.
Receive your completed transcript in the mail once you have finished all of your high school work.
Keep accurate records of your child's grades to create your own transcript. There is no law that says a transcript must be submitted by a school. Parents can make their own, but it is important that the transcript contain the information the college is looking for.
Type the student's name, address, phone number, sex, date of birth, parents' names and expected graduation date on your computer at the top of a Word document.
Separate the next section in to four equal parts. Label them "Grade 9," "Grade 10," "Grade 11" and "Grade 12."
Fill the sections in with the name of each class that was taken. Place the final grade for the year next to each one.
Give your child a letter grade for each class, then assign points that you will use to calculate a GPA, or grade-point average, for each year. Use the following scale: A-plus equals 4.3; A, 4.0; A-minus, 3.7; B-plus, 3.3; B, 3.0; B-minus, 2.7; C-plus, 2.3; C, 2.0; C-minus, 1.7; D-plus, 1.3; D, 1.0; F, 0.
Add up the corresponding points for each class, and then divide by the number of classes. For example, if a student received a B-plus in Math, an A-minus in English, a B in History and a C in Science, his GPA would be 3.25 (3.3+3.7+3+2=13; 13/4=3.25).
Add any scores from standardized test that were completed, such as the student's SAT results.
List any extracurricular activities in which your child participated in a new section. For example, if she won awards in the 4-H Club or participated in a church musical, include them. It is the extra activities that show whether a child is well-rounded and has additional ambitions and goals.
Print the transcripts out. Take them to a notary and sign and date them as the home-schooling parent who is acknowledging that the records are accurate. Have the notary sign the transcript to make it official.
