Gather all the necessary data for your field trip reference. You will need to obtain the field trip's date, event title (if any) and location (where did you go?), city included. You should also have on hand the name of your guide or presenter (if applicable) and the title or theme of the field trip.
Compose your reference in MLA format if instructed. Your notation will follow this basic setup:
Name Of Guide/Presenter (Last Name, First Name). "Theme or Presentation Title." Event Title. Location of field trip, City. Date. [The term:] Field trip.
As an example, the History Club from Westside High School took a field trip to the Museum of Natural Science in Houston, Texas, on April 4, 2011. Sara Smith was the guide for an exposition on The Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. The MLA reference would look like this:
Smith, Sara. "The Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt." History Club Field Day. Museum of Natural Science, Houston, TX. 4 April 2011. Field trip.
Create your reference in APA format if instructed. Your notation will look like this:
Name of Guide (Title) (Date). Theme or Presentation Title. Event Title. Field trip conducted by Institution, City.
Using the example in Step 2, the APA reference would be set up in the following format:
Smith, S. (Museum Guide) (2011, April 4). The Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt. History Club Field Day. Field trip conducted by Westside High School, Houston, TX.
Unlike the MLA format, in APA style you must mention the institution or organization that sponsored the event.
Set up your reference according to the Chicago Manual of Style if instructed. Your notation will look like this:
Last Name, First Name. "Theme or Presentation Title." Field Trip, Event Title from Sponsor, City, Date.
Using the example from Step 2, your Chicago reference should look like this:
Smith, Sara. "The Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt." Field Trip, History Club Field Day by Westside High School, Houston, Texas, April 4, 2011.
Like the APA format, your Chicago reference must include the institution or organization that sponsored the event.
