Obtain the name of the program or commercial which aired on the TV station you want to cite. MLA format should ideally include all the detailed information about the source you are citing, including the exact program or commercial name, the actors or performers, the network and the broadcast date. Keep a note on all of these aspects of the TV station to create an accurate citation.
Create a bibliographic entry using the information from Step 1. The MLA bibliographic citation should list the name or title of the episode or commercial in quotation marks, the title of the series, if applicable and underlined, the name of any pertinent performers, if applicable, the broadcasting city of the TV station, and the broadcast date. An example would look like this:
"Funny TV Show." American Television Broadcaster. Perf. Danny Actor. Anytown 15 Channel. 5 Oct. 2007.
Remember to underline the title of the television series, a detail we cannot show in this format. Indent any line after the first line. Place a period after each pertinent element in the citation, as in the example above, and include double spaces after each period.
Cite the TV station within the text of the paper or essay. MLA format utilizes a short parenthetical citation for all direct quotes or information gleaned from sources. To cite a TV station in the text, utilize the name of the program which was broadcast on the station. Place this name in parentheses and quotation marks at the end of the sentence in which the material was used. For instance:
"The comedy routines aired on Anytown illustrate the change in tone and humor of the American public ("Funny TV Show")."
