This program is an upper division degree program sponsored by the National Fire Academy's Fire and Emergency Service Higher Education Program. It is designed to give fire service personnel an opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science with major in either Fire Prevention/Technology or Fire Administration. A consortium of seven colleges throughout the U.S. offer this program including: Cogswell College, University of Cincinnati, University of Memphis, Western Oregon University, University of Maryland, Western Illinois University and Empire State College/SUNY.
John Jay College of Criminal Justice's Department of Protection Management, based in New York, offers a 48-credit hour program called Bachelor of Science in Fire Science. After completing the basic courses, students learn fire dynamics, life safety in building constructions, and fire safety administration. The college also offers a 33 credit hour B.A. program in fire and emergency services.
Kaplan University offers a post baccalaureate program called Master in Fire and Emergency Services. To be eligible for enrollment in this program, the student must be a permanent resident or citizen of the U.S. and must have access to a computer, as the lessons will be delivered and completed online.
Advanced Start Bachelor of Science in Fire and Emergency Management is offered by Kaplan University for students who already have a bachelor or associate degree. This degree combines the academic instruction of a regular 4-year program with the professional focus of a 2-year degree. Key learning areas include fire fighting and prevention, disaster response, safety risk management and community risk reduction.
