Develop a theme and agenda for the seminar. Make a list of topics and objectives that you want the seminar to address. For example, it may have a particular focus on geriatric or pediatric nursing -- or another focus within the discipline. On the other hand, the seminar may be more generalized, to appeal to the nursing profession as a whole. Its focus may be new technological developments, or research that affects administration or patient care.
Write a seminar schedule. Once the theme and objectives are clarified, the next step is to put the actual program together. This involves a number of logistics; such as finding speakers and teachers to lead the seminar -- finding a location or hotel for the seminar, and finding a viable date. The schedule should include lectures, workshops, meals, breaks and other activities.
Reserve a location for the seminar. Do this as soon as possible, to ensure that the location will be available. Take the time to research the facility and confirm that it meets all the needs and requirements for the seminar.
Reserve a hotel close to the seminar location, for overnight travellers. Hotels usually provide conference rates for seminar participants. Confirm and clarify all necessary details about the reservation.
Advertise and promote the seminar. Put together a promo package and advertising materials. This should include a seminar description, a list of objectives, a schedule of lectures and workshops. The advertising material should also provide details about the cost, location, hotel reservations, directions, and contact information.
