Staten Island residents willing to look off-island have the option of attending trade schools in the other boroughs of New York City, as well as in neighboring New Jersey. The Apex Technical School in Manhattan, for example, offers courses in refrigeration, air conditioning, auto body repair, plumbing, construction and more. There are schools in nearby northeast New Jersey that offer driver training courses for truck, bus, and tractor trailer drivers. Other cosmetology and bartending schools are also easily found in both New York and New Jersey. Many of these locations can be reached via public transportation directly from Staten Island.
