West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon has three options for GED preparation, and all are offered online. There are three options: a comprehensive GED prep course that covers all aspects of the exam, a Language Arts & Writing only course for intense writing preparation, and a math-intensive course. Individually, each course costs $95 (as of February 2011) and runs for six weeks. In addition, all three of the GED courses include a final exam that simulates the actual GED test.
The West Virginia Department of Education offers GED classes throughout the state via Adult Basic Education programs. Buckhannons' version runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. To enroll, you must agree to participate in a minimum of two days of class. The program provides assessment tests, GED practice tests and GED registration for all participants free of charge. Classes are offered throughout the year and coursework is individualized based on your assessment scores. Your learning is self-paced and you must earn a passing score on a practice GED test prior to registering for the GED exam.
The Division of Adult and Technical Education implements the Option Pathway. This program is designed for high-school age students who have fallen behind in credits. Through the Option Pathway, you take an accelerated GED prep course, Career and Technical Education classes, and work-readiness classes over one school year. Upon passing the GED exam, you will receive a high-school diploma. To become an Option student you must be behind by at least one full year of credits of high school learning or otherwise be at risk of not graduating. You also will need a recommendation from a teacher or counselor at your school.
