Roles & Responsibilities of a Plumber

A plumber's job goes beyond just working on pipes and toilets. Because he will be working inside of private homes and businesses, face-to-face with customers, there are other important roles and responsibilities he will be accountable for.
  1. Identification

    • A plumber is a skilled craftsman who is responsible for planning, installing and servicing the pipework and plumbing at businesses, schools and private homes.

    Customer Service

    • Many plumbers who work for themselves have to play the role of a customer service representative. They must field calls from potential clients and schedule appointments.

    Courteous Worker

    • The plumber must treat the customer's home or property with care. That includes cleaning up after himself and being careful not to track dirt through the client's home.

    Adviser

    • A plumber is responsible for informing the customer of any serious potential issues and for giving advice on how to resolve the problem in the most reliable and cost-effective way possible.

    Estimator

    • A plumber must also act in the capacity of an estimator. After analyzing a plumbing project, he will be required to generate a quote for the customer before leaving the home.
