The most important task of the president is to represent the students of the institution, and the students' council. As a representative of the students, the president attends meetings, which can be called by the principal, faculty or student council to ensure that the students' needs are considered and met. In meetings with the faculty, the president puts forth the concerns and considerations of the students and acts as their voice. He or she also meets with students on a regular basis and looks into any problems they may have.
As the head of the student body, the president has to set an agenda for the student council meetings that incorporates all the students' needs and concerns. The president can call for meetings whenever she or he feels they are necessary and ensure that the student body's plans are being carried out well.
Some student councils and governments give the president an important vote that can be exercised when there is a tie. In cases where the members of the student council are unable to reach an agreement on an issue, then the vote of the student council president breaks the tie and decides the matter.
The president also has the responsibility of being the head of committees for events that are organized by students, for instance proms, dances and talent shows. The president plans the management of the events, appoints the right people to organize them and accomplish all the required tasks, and ensures that the events run smoothly.
