Canadian Grants for Equipment to Start Up a Business

Various grants are available for those who want to start a business in Canada. The money can be used specifically for establishing the business which can include buying equipment. Some grants are geared toward certain groups of people while other are more broadly given. Also, some business grants are given only by the province while others are awarded by the federal government.
  1. Young Rural Aboriginal Entrepreneurship Grant

    • If you live in the province of Manitoba, you may be able to apply for the Young Rural Aboriginal Entrepreneurship Grant. To be eligible you must be of Aboriginal Heritage, under 40 years of age and be a Canadian citizen or hold landed immigrant status. Also your business needs to be located in rural Manitoba.

      The money is used to start the business, which may mean getting equipment, as well as other important items for your business. Additionally, after starting the business, an extension program should be started to encourage other young Aboriginal people who live in rural areas of the province to start their own businesses.

    Emerging Music Business Grant

    • The Emerging Music Business grant is provided by the Nova Scotia Culture Division. This grant provides funding for artists in Nova Scotia, which can mean money to buy musical equipment. To be eligible, you have to be an artist who has not received regional, national or international exposure or sales. You must also not have a manager, record deal or publicist, among other things. Industry professionals like a music promoter and Nova Scotia Registered society may also apply. For the professionals to be eligible, they must be in the process of starting a music business like a record label, music publishing company or other endeavors. The societies need to be incorporated under the Societies Act of Nova Scotia.

      The funding can total $4,000 or $15,000 for artist-manager mentoring endeavors. Application materials may include three recordings of an artist on CD, a cued VHS tape or cued audio tape.

    AgriBusiness Grants

    • The agribusiness grants are available for those who are new businesses in Alberta which plan to use livestock in their businesses. The grant is specifically meant to fund the use of lean automation processes. Thus, machinery which allows for more efficient food processing may be purchased with grant money. The funding amount is given in percentages. For instance, up to 20 percent of costs will be paid for capital projects. For non-capital projects, which may include third party consulting, up to 50percent will be awarded. To apply, a work plan must be provided.
