Eco-Energy grants are meant to help industries become more energy efficient by funding the installation of eco-friendly products and systems. Grants can total $50,000 per application, or 25 percent of the total project cost. Grant recipients can receive up to $250,000 per corporate entity. Small to medium companies are eligible to participate. Grant funds replace old equipment with new more energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly equipment as part of a retrofit program to help lower overall energy costs. One eligible project under the grant includes installation of an energy heating and business lighting system. Business must be in business for at least a year with less than 500 employees. To apply, submit an electronic request and the application is emailed.

For manufacturers interested in expanding or starting up in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, the government grant fund totals $25 million and is used for encouraging businesses to start-up or expand in the region. The amount of funding awarded to an individual business is determined by the scope of the overall program and what matching funds have been committed to the project. Funds can be used for human resources, infrastructure and other costs.
To be eligible for the funding, a business needs to have good standing in the province, be registered under the Newfoundland and Labrador corporations act, be in start-up or expansion phase, be an inward investment and be legally able to conduct business in the province. The Young Rural Aboriginal Entrepreneurship Program is meant to provide funding for young people who want to start their own business which can include manufacturing businesses. Eligibility requirements include being of Aboriginal heritage, under the age of 40, operating a rurally-located business and requires Canadian citizenship or a person to have a landed-immigrant status. The money from the grant is used to establish the business and pay for resource materials, seminars, workshops and other activities. Grant recipients must return the favor by creating an extension program for other rural Aboriginal youth interested in starting their own businesses.
