With five campuses in the Tampa area, Pasco-Hernando Community College offers two-year associate's degrees and one-year certificates in several technical fields. Students can participate in the college's Applied Welding Technologies Technical Certificate program. This program features intensive on-hands coursework to prepare students for careers in welding. The program requires students to complete 39 credit hours. Full-time students should be able to complete the program in 1.5 years. The program is offered only from the Dade City East Campus, which is located 25 miles northeast of downtown Tampa. Classes are held from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m on weeknights. To gain a certificate, students must pass the Test of Adult Basic Education.

While none of the technical degree programs feature welding, it is offered in courses that are part of the college's Postsecondary Adult Vocational Program. A course titled Welding and Cutting is included in the Autobody Collision Repair and Refinishing program. As well, welding is taught as part of the Industrial Maintenance program. The welding portion of each program features 100 hours of coursework, with much of it being hands-on education. Students who complete these programs will receive a PostSecondary Adult Vocational certificate of completion for a specific course of study. The certificate is designed to help students find jobs in their chosen field. Courses are not considered as college credit. The Ybor City campus is located in Tampa.

With campuses in St. Petersburg and Clearwater, St. Petersburg College provides an education to students in the Tampa area. The main campus is located just 10 miles from downtown Tampa. St. Pete College offers several Industrial Management Technology programs that fall under the Associate of Applied Science degree. Among the programs offered is a 16 credit hour program in Applied Welding Technology. This program requires 1,170 hours of education in welding along with eight hours of electives.
