Florida GED Test Information

Florida's Department of Education offers a General Educational Development (GED) exam that allows Florida residents who did not finish high school to receive the equivalent credential of a high school diploma. Receiving a GED can be a great enabler in helping adults launch a career because most career training programs and all colleges and universities require a high school diploma or something equivalent, such as a GED.
  1. What the GED Tests

    • The GED exam is designed to cover the same body of knowledge associated with a high school diploma, with increased emphasis on preparing students for the workplace or higher education. The GED consists of five separate test blocks that cover the following topics individually: language arts/reading; language arts/writing; mathematics; social studies; and science.

How to Register for the GED

    • All of the information and resources required to take the Florida GED are available by calling 1-877-352-4331. By calling this number, you can identify the nearest GED testing center. You will then need to contact that testing center and they will help you determine the following: whether you qualify to take the GED exam; where to find official GED practice exams; where to find GED preparation programs; what fees are associated with taking the GED exam; and when the GED exams are offered

How to Qualify for the GED Exam

    • There are only two requirements to take the GED. You must be at least 18 years old and you must be able to prove you are a Florida resident. Florida residency can be proven by obtaining a proof of residency document from a local Department of Motor Vehicle office or also by obtaining a Florida Drivers License or Florida State Identification Card. The age requirement can be waived, but a petition must be filed to the GED Chief Examiner in your county, and every county has different criteria for granting age waivers.

How to Pass the GED Exam

    • In order to obtain a Florida GED certificate, you must earn a score of at least 410 on each of the five GED test blocks. You also must earn an overall score of 2,250 or higher. By meeting these criteria, you will be granted a State of Florida High School Diploma and an Official GED Transcript.

If you do not receive passing scores on your first attempt, you may take the exam again. However, you may be required to enroll in a GED preparation course or wait a specific amount of time before retaking the exam. You are allowed to take the exam a maximum of three times during a one year period.

How to Obtain Your GED Transcript

    • A written request is required to obtain a copy of your GED transcript. The request form is linked below and requires a $6 payment along with information such as your name, date of birth, social security number, approximate year you took the exam and the city or county where you took it.
