Online Schools for EMTs

The training to become an emergency medical technician (EMT) includes classwork and practical hands-on training to acquire the skills to handle emergencies using Basic Life Support equipment. For this reason, online EMT training is limited and online schools for EMTs include both the online learning portion and required training time at the school.
  1. Training Division

    • Training Division in Texas offers online programs for EMTs, paramedics and firefighters. After completing the online coursework, you go to the Training Division facility for the practical, hands-on training.

    University of Utah

    • The University of Utah offers an online EMT program that also requires hands-on training at the university that certifies a person as an Utah EMT-Basic. Out-of-state students need to determine if this training is sufficient for EMT certification in their state. If it isn't, they must obtain the remaining necessary training on their own.

    Jefferson University Hospitals

    • Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia offers a distance-learning EMT program of 180+ hours. However, this program requires students to participate in practical skills sessions once a week, so it is probably only workable for people who live near Philadelphia.
