Grants for Women Veterans

Women veterans are entitled to the same benefits as male veterans, and they can receive grants to assist them with rehabilitation or help them go back to school. Grants are not available specifically for women veterans, as these grants are available to all veterans. Grants also are available to help disabled women veterans purchase adaptive vehicles to provide locomotion. All these grants are administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  1. Automobiles and Adaptive Equipment

    • The Automobiles and Adaptive Equipment for Certain Disabled Veterans grant aims to help disabled military personnel and veterans via financial assistance. These funds may be used to purchase a vehicle and adaptive equipment to operate the vehicle. Veterans may only purchase two vehicles within any four-year time frame unless one of the vehicles can no longer be used by the veteran. To be eligible, veterans must have received an honorable discharge and must have received the disability during active service. Applications are available online.

    Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance

    • These grants are issued directly to service women and men to help them adjust to civilian life after they are discharged. These funds are meant to be used for educational purposes. The amount a person receives depends on how long she served in the military and how much her education will cost. Veterans also receive a basic housing allowance. The benefits generally are issued for between 36 and 48 months. Veterans are eligible for up to $2,000 in reimbursement for licensing or certification tests. Children of a service person who died during service or the spouse or children of a veteran or a current service member may be eligible for tuition assistance under this program. Applications are available online.
