Patent Prosecution Training

A patent is a legal declaration granting the creator of a new invention the exclusive rights to the product. Individuals that specialize in representing clients in the process of patent acquisition are lawyers, usually with specialized training in the laws and guidelines that regulate patent acquisition and prosecution.
  1. Programs

    • Patent prosecution training programs are generally available to newer lawyers interested in learning about the procedures involved in patent applications and prosecution. Patent prosecution training is offered in the form of one- to three-day workshops and seminars.

    Curriculum

    • Workshops and lectures include theoretical instruction and hands-on training with drafting work. Lectures that take place during training include an overview of the requirements for patents, prosecution tips from a patent litigator's perspective, ethics, interviewing inventors, application drafting, claim drafting and petitions and appeals.

    Specialties

    • Participants can choose from a variety of specific practical training in biotechnology and chemical claim drafting, electrical and software claim drafting and mechanical claim drafting, among others.

    Continuing Education Credit

    • Attendance at an approved workshop or seminar in patent prosecution training can provide up to 18 continuing legal education (CLE) credits, including more than one hour of legal ethics.
