Electrical Technician Safety

Electrical technicians complete the installation and maintenance of electrical and power systems for both residential and commercial buildings. Training helps electricians identify and avoid potentially dangerous situations.
  1. Licensure

    • The majority of states within the U.S. require electricians to be licensed before they can perform their duties. Licensing exams usually consist of subjects including knowledge of electrical theory and building codes at local, state and national levels.

    Training

    • Training courses in electrical safety are available from providers such as the National Association of Safety Professionals. Training courses include information on the hazards of contact with electricity, electrical shocks, burns caused by electricity and evaluating electrical hazards.

    Principles

    • Gaining an understanding of the principles of electricity allows electrical technicians to identify and evaluate the potential hazards they face when completing their work, according to the NASP. Electrical technician safety includes complying with regulations and establishing safe work practices.
