Caribbean Flight Schools

  1. Puerto Rico

    • Puerto Rico is a northeastern Caribbean island that is an official U.S. territory. The island's premier flight school is located in the capital city of San Juan. The Isla Grande Flying School has been in existence since 1953 and is approved by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. The school is recognized for having the first International Cessna Pilot Center in the world. The aircraft fleet offered to students feature, exclusively, Cessna models, and includes basic single-engine trainers, advanced "glass cockpit" aircraft, complex aircraft, twin engine airplanes, tail-draggers and helicopters. Through a partnership with the Isla Grande Flying School and Mountain State University in West Virginia, students are able to receive college credits toward an aviation degree program from Mountain State University.

    Jamaica

    • Jamaica is a western Caribbean island that is the third largest of all the Caribbean islands. The capital city of Kingston is home to the Caribbean Aviation Training Center. This institution was established in 2000 and operates an approved Cessna Pilot Center. Jamaica operates one of only two Cessna locations outside the U.S. The Caribbean Aviation Training Center is regulated by the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. The school admits students beginning at age 16 and applicants must be able to read, speak and write English, fluently. Aviation licensing is offered for private, commercial and airline pilots; as well as for flight instructor certificates.

    Antigua

    • Located in the eastern Caribbean is the island of Antigua. Antigua offers the only flight school in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States. The Antigua Flight Training Center is located at the island's V.C. Bird International Airport that also accommodates the islands of St. John's and Barbuda. The school is approved by the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority and offers licensing for private, commercial and airline pilots. In addition to the adult pilot training program, a junior-level pilot training program is offered to students from 14 to 17 years of age. The average time to complete the flight training course is 18 months.

    The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

    • 'The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is a southern Caribbean island that is home to Briko Air Services Limited. Briko has been in operation since 1983. In 2010, it opened a new flight training school that has the capacity to train up to 300 students in a school year. Students are trained on Cessna models 152 and 172, and the twin engine Beech Baron. The school is regulated by the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority and offers a private pilot license.
