Traffic Engineering Schools

Traffic engineering falls under the educational heading of of civil engineering. Traffic engineering is concerned with the safety and efficiency of the transportation of people and goods. It typically involves construction of infrastructures, research, traffic signal design, intersection and parking lot design and pedestrian studies. Traffic engineers make recommendations to improve traffic conditions and travel patterns for both vehicles and pedestrians.
  1. University of Missouri Traffic and Transportation Engineering

    • One of the civil engineering programs that the University of Missouri offers is an undergraduate degree in Traffic and Transportation Engineering. In this program, students learn how to construct highways, airports, transit systems and seaports. Studies include optimizing traffic signals, geometric highway design, analysis of traffic flow, highway work zones, transportation security, traffic crash statistics and transportation planning to accommodate bicycles and pedestrians. The University is located in Columbia, Missouri.

    Northwestern University Transportation and Logistics

    • Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois offers an undergraduate minor in Transportation and Logistics through the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. The minor offers undergraduate students the opportunity to obtain a broad understanding of the economics involved in engineering and operations of transportation and logistics systems. It also covers the role that public policy plays in traffic and transportation design and construction. It has several scholarships available to transportation engineering students.

The University of California-Irvine Transportation Systems Engineering

    • The University of California-Irvine offers a Transportation Systems Engineering program through its Henry Samuel School of Engineering. It provides a bachelor of science in civil engineering which includes structural engineering and transportation information and control systems. This school also offers a graduate degree in transportation systems engineering which emphasizes the planning, operation, design and management of transportation systems. Qualified students are eligible for financial aid through research or teaching assistantships in addition to several fellowships and scholarships.

Graduate degree at the University of Southern Texas

    • A graduate degree program at the University of Southern Texas within its department of transportation studies offers an advanced program in traffic engineering. This program focuses on ways to improve transportation education, training and research. Students will participate in local, state and federal research and training projects to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop solutions to complex transportation issues. The program involves internships, research projects, courses, symposia, conferences and seminars.
